American Military PCS to Stuttgart Germany: Army Lodging Guide – Panzer Kaserne & Kelley Barracks Hotel

Stuttgart Army Lodging is one of the first things most military families look into when preparing for a PCS to Germany and arriving in Stuttgart.

Since the Stuttgart military community is spread across multiple bases throughout the city, knowing where to stay can make the transition overseas much smoother.

There are 5 military installations within Stuttgart: Panzer Kaserne, Patch Barracks, Kelley Barracks, Robinson Barracks, and Stuttgart Army Airfield.

The two primary lodging locations are the Panzer Hotel on Panzer Kaserne and the Kelley Hotel on Kelley Barracks.

The video below will give you a first look at the Stuttgart military communities.

Panzer Hotel at Panzer Kaserne

Panzer Kaserne was originally built in 1936 as the home of the German WWII 7th Panzer Regiment. After World War II, the installation became home to the US Army in 1945 and later supported Seventh Army and VII Corps operations.

Today, Panzer Kaserne is one of the main hubs for the Stuttgart military community and houses units like the 10th Special Forces Group, Naval Special Warfare Units, Marine Forces Europe and Africa, and the US Army Garrison Stuttgart Headquarters.

Panzer Hotel Room Types

The Panzer Hotel is the larger of the two Stuttgart Army Lodging facilities with 215 total rooms available.

Room options include:

  • 125 standard and extended stay rooms
  • 52 family suites
  • 28 pet friendly room options
  • 10 accessible room options

This setup works well for larger families, travelers arriving with pets, or military members staying in Stuttgart for longer TDY assignments.

Panzer Hotel: Things You Need to Know

Official check in begins at 1500, but guests may be able to check in earlier if rooms are available. Check out time is 1100 daily. The hotel also offers free wireless internet, guest laundry facilities, wake up calls, fitness center access, rollaway beds, and limited toiletries if you forgot something during travel.

For families bringing electronics from the United States, the front desk may also have loaner adapters and transformers available while you wait for household goods to arrive.

Please ask at the front desk for designated smoking areas or smoke outside and at least 50 feet from the building. Guests who smoke in the lodging facility will be charged $200 and will be required to leave. No smoking is authorized on the 3rd floor pedestrian bridge, regardless of distance from the building.

Panzer Hotel Housekeeping

Housekeeping is provided daily unless guests use the “Do Not Disturb” sign. If the sign stays on the door past noon, the hotel will respect your privacy and skip service for that day.

What’s Around Panzer Kaserne?

Panzer Kaserne is one of the most convenient installations for incoming military families because so many important services are located nearby.

Microwaves and kitchen basics in certain rooms make quick meals easier during those first weeks overseas. Ice and vending machines are also available throughout the building.

One of the biggest advantages of staying at Panzer is the convenience of nearby food options, the PX, Commissary, and quick access to other on base services.

Which Hotel Is Better for Your Situation?

If you want quick access to the majority of on base services, Panzer Hotel is usually the better option. It is larger, busier, and more central for in processing, errands, and daily convenience during your first few weeks in Germany.

Kelley Hotel tends to feel quieter and more relaxed, which many families appreciate after long travel days and the chaos of a PCS move. While it has fewer nearby amenities compared to Panzer, it still offers easy access to the rest of the Stuttgart military community.

How Do You Get Around Stuttgart Without a Car?

One of the biggest concerns for military families arriving in Germany is transportation, especially before receiving a vehicle. Stuttgart does offer duty bus and shuttle transportation between installations, which can help military families get around while settling in overseas.

Many important services are also within walking distance depending on which lodging location you stay at. Between the shuttle system, taxis, trains, and nearby on base amenities, most families can manage fairly well during those first few weeks before getting fully settled.

Can You Bring Pets to Stuttgart Army Lodging?

Yes. Stuttgart Army Lodging offers pet friendly rooms at both Panzer Hotel and Kelley Hotel when availability allows. Cats and dogs are permitted, but there is a non refundable pet fee plus a small daily charge per animal.
